About us

A question from crossword puzzles, about a town with two letters in the name, which refers to Ub, could rather read like this: A place in Serbia, from which as many as five national football team members, top players – Dragan Dzajic, Dusan Savic, Ratko Colic , Nemanja Matić and Radosav Petrović.

Ub is special in many ways and the people of Ubljani adore it and are proud of their city wherever they are. With this unique museum, the president of the municipality of Ub, Darko Glišić, with his associates and citizens of Ub, wants to express his gratitude to the football greats who celebrated the name of our city.

Another Ubljani historian, Dr. Miroslav Perisic, director of the Archives of Serbia, says that the Ub spirit gave birth to greats from philosophy to politics, from acting to medicine, from dramaturgy to poetry, from the Brazilian “Marakana” and Highbury to the Dream Theater. – It cannot be that Ub is small, and there are so many greats – says Perišić. – Thus, thanks to Dragan Dzajic, Ub became known on all meridians and parallels, and the name of Dusan Savic refreshed the memory of our city, so today, thanks to Nemanja Matic, the name of the miraculous place from which football greats come is spread around the world. Dragan Dzajic ruled the world football stages for an entire era. Once upon a time, Dzajic won the biggest and strongest and proved something that is more and more valuable than football, that small nations should not have a sense of inferiority in relation to more numerous, more powerful, richer nations. Today, Nemanja Matić and Radosav Petrović continue that vertical. All of them Ub withdrew with them in their ascent to glory. Ub has its people who are citizens of the world. Perišić reminds us of the times of Džajić, when people lived modestly, dreamed of a beautiful future with a radio, and because of football matches, they waited for Sunday… In Uba, everyone, from children to the oldest, addressed Xaj with – you. Nemanja Matić has such closeness with Ub today, at whose suggestion the Ub stadium has been named after Dragan Džajić since last Monday. – We are happy that we are compatriots of Dragan Dzajic, his contemporaries, that we know him, we are proud that he is from here – says Darko Glisic, President of the Municipality of Ub. – Nemanja Matić shows that his heart is bigger than Ub and the whole of Serbia. Wherever he is in the world, he remembers Uba, the environment from which he came. Nemanja, one of the best football players in the world, the pride of Serbian football, has won and will win many more trophies, but what makes him and will make him great and greatest, is his upbringing and love for his environment. Football affirmed Ub, made it famous, great.

The Tamnava ball club was founded in 1920, and less than two decades later, it was given the current name Jedinstvo. Some time ago, the club was taken over by Nemanja Matić, who also financed the reconstruction of the stadium, which was opened in September 1976 by the Red Star.

Ubljani are in a special way related to football and Jedinstvo. Mile Krčevinac understood this connection and the specific psychology of the Ub Bazaar best and understood it the fastest, living in Uba in the first post-war days. He spoke to each newcomer from Ubljani and advised him: “there are only two shrines in Uba, the Committee and Jedinstvo, you stick to football players.”

The small town, until recently more than modest working conditions, gave a lot to Serbian, Yugoslav, European and world football. The best left wing of the world, the best football player of Yugoslavia of all time, the champion of Europe and the World, as a sports director – Dragan Dzajic, according to Ub’s Fira, is the first and biggest pearl of the Ub football bazaar. Then in order, from Ratko Colic, Dusan Savic, Raca Petrovic, all the way to Manchester, the best football player in Serbia for 2014 and 2015, Nemanja Matic. The first member of the Jedinstvo national team was Slavko Zagorac. He played for the national team of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia from 1932 to 1938. In addition to them, there were other players from Ub Jedinstvo who played for the national team of Serbia, namely Nenad Kovacevic, Dusan Basta, Bosko Jankovic, Marko Perovic, Aleksandar Lukovic, Dragan Mrdja and Veseljko Trivunovic. who have achieved enviable international careers.

For the first time, a soccer ball, a “lederka”, jumped “on Vujana’s meadow” near Ubača on the Transfiguration of the Lord in 1920. The football players of SK Tamnava played the first game in green and black jerseys. The first president was Ceda Djordjevic Lojda, a local financial official, who brought the “lederka” to Ub. From then until today, there have been, or tried to be, several clubs in Uba: Omladina, Trgovacki, Sloboda, Gradjanski, Radnicki, Jedinstvo, Obilic, Radnik, Zimpa.
