One of the best Yugoslav football players of all time. The third Zvezda star, he played 85 games in the national team, until 2004 the president of the Red Star football club, at the head of which he was for over two decades. As the then technical director of the Red Star, Dzajic is the creator of the most golden generation in the history of the Red Star, with which he climbed to the top of Europe in May 1991, winning the European Champions Cup and the world, when Red Star won the Toyota Cup in an unofficial competition for the best club on the planet. , in December 1991.
Already at the age of fifteen, he became a member of the Red Star, because he had previously played great at a tournament in Valjevo, and hunters from big clubs immediately noticed him. When he reached the first junior selection, he was transferred to the first team only six months later. Aleksandar Obradović gave him a chance on May 6, 1963, when he made his debut in the match against Titograd’s Buducnost when he was less than 17 years old. In the following 1963/64 season, he won the first championship title and became the leader of the new generation, which won the title of the best in the Yugoslav championship and four Yugoslav Cups three times in a row (1968, 1969 and 1970) and once again in 1973.
He made his national team debut on June 17, 1964 in Belgrade, in a match against Romania (1: 2).
At the 1968 Nations Cup in Italy, Dzajic cheated Wilson’s direct keeper in a race against the English world champions in Florence on June 5, knocked down captain Moore in the penalty area and then lobbed Banks, who saw the ball only when it was in the net and brought Yugoslavia a place in the finals, which it later, after two games, lost to Italy. Dzajic scored a goal for Yugoslavia in the first game, and with 2 goals he was the most efficient scorer of the final part of the championship.
In the 1970/1971 season. Dzajic was excluded in the quarterfinals of the European Champions Cup in the match against Carl Zeiss Jena and won a three-match ban. That is why he could not play against Panathinaikos in the semifinals, when the Red Star celebrated 4: 1 in Belgrade and lost 3: 0 in Athens. On October 11, 1972 in London (it was 1: 1 against the English), Dzajic broke Branko Zebec’s previous record in the number of games played.
He participated in the 1974 World Cup in West Germany, where the Yugoslav national team played a draw with the world champion Brazil at the opening of the championship and achieved a record victory of 9: 1 against the national team of Zaire, and Dzajic scored one goal. However, after passing to the second phase of the championship, the national team of Yugoslavia did not repeat the games as from the first phase and ordered 3 defeats, so they had to return home.
He spent two seasons (1975 and 1976) in Bastia, where he played 80 matches for the French first league, returned to Belgrade and to Crvena zvezda, whose jersey he last wore on May 28, 1978 in Mostar. He said goodbye to the national team on September 16, 1979, in a friendly match against Argentina (4: 2) at Maracana. He played a record 590 matches for the Red Star, scoring 287 goals (of which 305 championship matches and 113 goals). He played for the national team a total of 85 times, and his record was broken by Savo Milosevic in October 2004.
In 1979, the Red Star offered Dzajic the role of technical director of the club, from which he achieved the greatest successes in the history of the Red Star, winning the European Champions Cup and the Intercontinental Cup in 1991.
After the poor results of the Red Star and health problems, Dzajic resigned from the position of the president of the Red Star in 2004.
In 2003, the Football Association of Serbia and Montenegro chose him as the best player in the country in the past 50 years.
